Welcome
We made up of roughly 8,000 people with a strong infrastructure to support all our members from formal education to social care, social housing needs all the way through to cultural, religious and social activities.
We have a diverse community, and it includes people from severe poverty to the extremely wealthy; varying levels of abilities and disabilities; varying nationalities and identities, various levels of religiosity or none; and all age groups some are passionate about Israel and others are opposed to it.
Jews have lived in Leeds since at least the 18th century. The first Jewish cemetery was established in 1840 and the first official Jewish wedding ceremony took place in 1842.
A huge thank you to the National Lottery Community Award to enable the Leeds Jewish Representative Council (LJRC) to create this website. Part of the LJRC’s role is to bring the community together and to represent everyone the best they can. The role they play is ever evolving depending on need, opportunities, and priorities, to ensure the Jewish community remains vibrant, engaging and sustainable for many years to come so this website is key to helping to share everything that goes on.
If you can’t find what you are looking for on this website, please contact the LJRC Office (info@ljrc.org / 0113 218 5869) and they will be happy to help.
