Excitement is building about this year’s Tour de France which will start in Leeds on 5th July 2014. The Tour, which will attract around 50,000 spectators to Leeds, will bring many business opportunities and put Leeds in the eyes of the world. As I am sure you are aware we are anticipating economic benefit in excess of £100m from the Tour.

To maximise the opportunities for business, officers have already been in discussion with organisations such as Town and Parish Councils, City Centre Management Board and Leeds Retail Association. Now we are organising a series of further meetings for business to find out more about what the Grand Depart could mean for business. There will be speakers from Welcome to Yorkshire and Leeds City Council, covering everything from crowd numbers and road closures to street entertainment and bike parking.

The first set of business workshop dates have been released:

Friday 28 February 12 noon – 2pm Leeds Media Centre, Savile Mount, Chapeltown

Wednesday 12 March 8am – 10am White Cloth Gallery, Aire Street

Wednesday 19 March 12 noon – 2pm White Cloth Gallery, Aire Street

Wednesday 26 March 3pm – 5pm White Cloth Gallery, Aire Street

More Business Workshops will be arranged once we see what demand is like for these first ones. Full details can be found at: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/leeds-city-council-tdf-team-6035111113?s=21983227 which is on the www.leeds.gov.uk/granddepartleeds website

Officers are also planning a range of meetings with other organisations including:

    • Leeds City Centre Divisional Community Safety Partnership Meeting (21 January)
    • Scott Hall/Potternewton/Chapel Allerton – Residents Association ( 11 February)
    • NHS Leeds Health Providers Network (14 February)
    • Leeds Property Forum – (25 March)

Meetings with Kirkgate Market traders and the Business Continuity Network are also planned.

I hope the above information is useful. Please do disseminate it across your networks so we can help as many businesses as possible take advantage of the fantastic opportunities presented by the Tour de France coming to town!

    Best wishes
