Kosher Bakery Update from Leon Davidson (BHH President):

The Bakery Board recently met and spent a long time going through the 155 entries for the name the bakery competition. We decided that the bakery is to be called ‘The Street Lane Bakery’ and the coffee shop will be called ‘The Gardens Coffee Shop’. Congratulations to Robert Addlestone for the winning entry. Robert’s prize is two Street Lane Bakery Challot every Friday for a year – good Shabbat Robert!

When we were at the early fund raising stage of the bakery many community members asked if they could help financially. At that time we were looking for quite large loans to ensure that the core funding was in place and I mentioned that I would go out to the members at a later point in time to open up the funding.

If anyone would like to help fund the bakery by making loans in any amount of £100 or more or any value donations, then please let me know either directly or through the office. Donations should be made through the Shul office either by cheque or credit card, but please let the office know that it’s for the bakery. Your support is really appreciated.

The bakery refurbishment is moving along nicely and it will look really good when its finished.

We start the interviewing for our pastry chef next week so hopefully we will have someone on board very soon.

Rabbi Kleiman and Dayan Refson have been to the bakery to check our plans and they are both comfortable with our kitchen and service counter layout.

We are now launching our new competition. We are asking for your favourite recipes. Either breads or bakes.

Please send in your recipe either modern or traditional to office@bhhs.co.uk and we will have a recipe of the week, hopefully different every week. So if you would like your favourite cake, bun, dessert, challah or bread made in our bakery, then we shall be selecting the best recipes and naming it after you as our recipe of the week. If we receive enough entries we will produce a cookbook of them at the end of the year to raise money for charity.

So if you want to see Auntie Freda’s Challah, Bubba’s Cuchen, Etta’s Meringue or Chaim’s Cupcakes – send those recipes in now!
